Tibetan Civilization 

Zhangzhung (Shangshung) was one of the earliest known Tibetan civilizations and tt was flourished roughly from around 500 BC to the 7th century AD. Zhangzhung was an ancient kingdom and culture that existed mainly in western Tibet, especially around Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, long before the rise of the Tibetan Empire. 

Zhangzhung was rooted in spiritual traditions that honored mountains, rivers, and unseen forces of nature. Meanwhile, along the fertile Yarlung Valley, small tribal communities grew into powerful clans. By the 7th century, a young king named Songtsen Gampo united these lands into the Tibetan Empire, establishing a political and cultural identity that would shape Tibet for centuries. Writing systems were developed, trade routes expanded, and Buddhism began to take root, blending with older spiritual traditions.
