Tibetan Astrology

Tibetan astrology is a fascinating and ancient system that combines elements from Indian (Vedic), Chinese, and indigenous Bon traditions. It plays an important role in Tibetan culture, influencing everything from daily decisions to major life events. Here's a quick overview of its core components:

Types of Tibetan Astrology

Kartsi (White Astrology)

§  Originates from Indian astrology and Buddhist teachings.

§  Focuses on celestial bodies, planets, and constellations.

§  Used for spiritual matters, health, and understanding karmic influences.

Naktsi (Black Astrology)

§  Derived from the Chinese system and Bon tradition.

§  Incorporates elements like the 12-year animal cycle, 5 elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water), and 8 trigrams (Bagua).

§  Often used for more practical matters—calculating dates, compatibility, and protection rituals.

The Tibetan Zodiac

Similar to the Chinese zodiac, Tibetan astrology uses a 12-animal cycle:

1)    Rat

2)    Ox

3)    Tiger

4)    Rabbit

5)    Dragon

6)    Snake

7)    Horse

8)    Sheep

11) Dog

12) Pig

Each year is also associated with:

§  One of the Five Elements

§  gender (male/female, alternating each year)

§  trigram (from Chinese cosmology)

For example: 2024 was the Wood Dragon, Male, Wind Trigram.
